Poor Hellebore

Poor Poor Hellebore

Before the sleeting diminished, Monday, I got up close and personal with my now sparse hellebore, on my back porch. Processing was done in Lightroom 5, Photoshop CC (image stacking, for deeper focus), with further enhancements in Perfect Effects Premium 8. A Kenko auto extension tube got me close.

The light was from my handheld (remotely triggered) flash.
it was directed into a large white envelope, to make the source much larger (more like sky light), and held about 9 inches above the blossoms. flash gave me better sharpness, since the overcast sky was rapidly dimming.
i could have used a small softbox on the flash, but i didn't want to take the time to rig the one i have, when this technique works Quite well.

Hot Macro

I participate in the weekly mini-theme of a G+ Community: MacroMonday.
I got a chuckle from realizing that I wasn’t the only Macro Monday member who thought of onion skin for the last mini-theme assignment, ‘Skin’.
Last night, upon reviewing the picks by moderators, Sandra Parlow and Jeff Moreau , I went through a thought progression that ended up with this (among other variations) on the same onion I had used. The light from the left is from a green image on my computer monitor, while the red light from camera left was from small LED “laser” flashlight (you know.. the cheap toy they sell to wear out your cabin-fevered cat) to backlight the spreading, dried, outer skin of the onion bulb.
None of my attempts, of course, were very repeatable since I was hand holding the flashlight for a portion of the exposure. Closeup gear was a short extension tube on my Nikon kit lens.

Hellebore, not quite HelleBorn

Hellebore Opens for Budness.
I like these flowers, when they bloom, yet I am not sure what will happen to this blossom, as it exposed its tender flesh to the elements about three days before the Serious Cold dipped South.
